Volley Whip Cracks
This is where things start to get interesting. When you
learn how to do volleys you are entering a whole new realm of whip
cracking. Once you can do these you can move on to some really advanced
whip
cracking routines. They are a little tricky to learn but when you do
you will impress your friends and neighbors. Women will swoon and children
will gaze in wild wonderment. Well I may exaggerating but they are
impressive. When you start out you first have to learn how to modify
the forward crack a bit. Rather than just letting you arm drop to your
side you are going to want to keep it out straight. This way you can
take advantage of the proverbial "back lash" of the whip. You want
to take that energy and use it to make the whip crack behind you.
To do this you use a bit more wrist action than with most other whip
cracks. Also the crack the happens behind you is nothing like the reverse
whip crack. In this case as you can see from the video you don't change
the position of your hand much at all. The way I learned to do this
particular whip crack was directly in front of me on a vertical plane.
I basically
just tried to see if I could get the loop to form efficiently in
both directions just flipping it back and forth. Once I got the hang
of doing it that way learning to do it at my side was much easier.
Remember to keep the loop of the whip traveling on the outside of
your arm. Do not stop the motion of the whip by hesitating as it comes
back towards you. This is going to seem a bit strange at first and
you will feel as thought the whip is going to hit you but rest assured,
if you
keep the loop on the outside of your arm everything will be fine.
Start out by trying to do three cracks in a row. Once you can do that
well you will be able to move on and do any number of cracks. The Guinness
Book of World Records at the moment for the most whip cracks in a minute
is over 260. This was accomplished by doing volleys. So maybe I wasn't
exaggerating after all.
While you are taking a much needed break from learning
the volleys why not learn a little flourish with the whip so you can
look really cool cracking your whip. The fancy body wrap.
